Surveys
AEG personnel commonly conduct surveys of hazardous materials in building prior to renovation or demolition. The purpose of the survey is generally to identify if any specific hazards that may require workers to be protected. We generally look for asbestos containing materials (ACM), lead (generally lead based paint (LBP) or lead containing paint (LCP)), arsenic (commonly used as an pest deterrent in canic board), PCBs (commonly found in old fluorescent lighting ballasts, and mercury (found in virtually all fluorescent tubes, as well as thermostats, electrical switches, and pressure gauges). Lately, mold has been identified as a hazard to building occupants. AEG has conducted mold surveys on buildings of up to 25,000 Square Feet. Upon completion of the survey, AEG presents the client with a written report summarizing sampling results and providing recommendations for actions to be taken.

Specification Writing
In cases where hazardous materials are found in buildings that are to be demolished or renovated, AEG is also experience in specification writing. Based on the results of our survey, or that of a third party, AEG designs project specifications for aspects of the work that will disturb the materials in question. When designing project specifications, we always keep in mind the safety of the workers, the safety of the environment, and the reality that the work must be completed. We do not put unnecessary wording into our specifications, and because of our extensive quality control measures, our clients have confidence that they are receiving the highest quality specifications possible.

Work Plan Writing
When Specifications are designed by another company, AEG is often asked to prepare the work plan for the contractor. The work plan is a document that outlines in detail the steps the contractor should take when working with the material. Because AEG's experienced project designers have all worked in the field on a number of abatement/remediation projects, our clients know that we have taken the realities of working in the field into consideration. Safety is always the primary concern, but we are also careful not to tie our client's hand behind their backs. From work area preparation to removal, to cleanup, to decontamination, to disposal, we look at each step required to complete the work. When we present a work plan to a client, the client has confidence that by following the work plan, their workers will be safe, and the work will be completed.
